Just as you look after your teeth, you also have to care for your pet’s teeth. With 80% of pets over the age of 3 having some form of dental disease regular check ups are essential. At Thornbury Veterinary Hospital we offer FREE dental checks by our qualified Veterinary nurses, who are then able to offer you a tailored dental health care plan.
A dental health care plan may include any or all of the following:
Teeth brushing, we can show you how and give you tips to make it easier
Dental specific treats, fresh raw bones (nb. there are important rules to follow when giving your dog bones) and chews
Dental diets, where the kibble is a unique shape, texture and composition which encourages chewing rather than swallowing. The act of chewing, along with special enzymes in the food, help to breakdown and remove plaque from the teeth and reduce gingivitis.
Dental toys, which encourage chewing and can help remove plaque from teeth
Veterinary dental treatments, sometimes despite our best efforts our pets will need a teeth clean under general anaesthetic. During this procedure your pet will get a thorough dental exam, which may include x-rays along with scaling and polishing of the teeth. Any diseased or damaged teeth will also be identified and treated to remove any source of pain from your pet’s mouth.
